Whether you're preparing for a special event or just want to look your best daily, achieving flawless skin is something that we all would like to have! At Renude, we see skincare as being far beyond a trend but an important part of self-care, well-being and skin health but every trend has its perks! What we’ve seen in the last year or so, are fun ways of embracing your natural beauty and a commitment to long-term skincare.

How to achieve skin for every trend

From a  Korean classic trend to soft and cloudy, here are our skincare routine recommendations on how to achieve great skin.

Get Glass Skin

A K-Beauty phenomenon, Glass skin, along with buttery skin and the very wet-looking dolphin skin, is all about an insane glow, which is the result of having smooth, ultra-hydrated skin. So how do we achieve this through skincare?

We love that this trend requires a personalised approach to skincare. With consistency, you can achieve the glass skin look every day:

  1. Start by adopting a super hydrating cleanser, the Q+A Hyaluronic Acid Cleanser is great as it also uses aloe vera for soothing, is suitable for all skin types and works to strengthen the skin barrier and hydrate the skin.
  2. Regular and gentle exfoliation using AHA’s, BHA’s or PHAs (depending on which is right for you) to ensure the skin feels smooth like glass. Products like Medik8 press and glow can be used once or twice a week but should be introduced slowly.
  3. Nighttime treatments will be your hero step! Those richer and more effective creams with emollients prioritise the skin barrier function and will keep the skin supple.
  4. A daily moisturiser that uses barrier-supporting lipids like ceramides alongside hydrating humectants like hyaluronic acid and glycerin will help to keep the skin healthy.
  5. If you want to maximise your glow, opt for a sunscreen with a dewy finish as your final step! We love Thank you Farmer Sun Project Sun Cream SPF50 (for all skin tones) or Heliocare Mineral Tolerance if your skin tone is fair.

The ‘Doughnut-Glazed’ look

Let’s begin by acknowledging the infamous quote from Rhode Skin founder, Hailey Bieber that led the TikTokers in droves, striving to achieve doughnut-glazed skin;

"My standard when I go to bed at night is if I'm not getting into bed looking like a glazed doughnut, then I’m not doing the right thing,".

Whilst doughnut-glazed skin sounds very similar to glass skin, it’s achieved more simply through a daily routine rather than the patience that glass skin requires and if you have an oily skin type, it’s all about embracing your skin's natural oil production. If you’re striving to achieve this, throw away the blotting papers!

  1. Look for a gentle cleanser that moisturises the skin while keeping it clean. Non-foaming and sulphate-free, like the CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser
  2. Try an essence, like the SVR [B3] Hydra Essence, which contains water-binding hyaluronic acid alongside balancing niacinamide.
  3. Add in a brightening treatment step that is also an antioxidant such as vitamin C. Try the Garden of Wisdom C-Deep Vitamin C Serum.
  4. When moisturising, try using gentle but richer and thicker formulas that contain lipid-based ingredients that can fortify and imitate your skin's natural oils. If your skin doesn't vibe with thicker creams, try gel-based products such as the Bioderma Hydrabio Gel-Creme on damp skin instead.
  5. Lock in the moisture with a mist that you can top up throughout the day. We love the Q+A Hyaluronic Acid Mist.

Get Cloudy Skin

It may feel like this is a makeup trend, but your skincare will play a far more important role than you may think in achieving cloudy skin; as it typically involves mixing super hydrating skincare and matte makeup to get an ethereal glow that lifts through your finished look rather than the wetter looks of glass skin or doughnut-glazed. Celebrities bringing this trend to light at the moment include the likes of Sofia Richie and Laura Harris. To perfect this look, a strong skincare routine is essential:

  1. Firstly cleanse your skin with a gentle everyday cleanser like the Medik8 cream cleanser that doesn’t use too many active ingredients
  2. Follow this up with a toning solution that will gently exfoliate the skin, working to clear out any clogged pores, remove dead skin cells and smooth the texture of your skin. The PSA Herione Toner is a great option!
  3. Treat your skin with something lightweight, so that your finished make-up look doesn't feel so heavy, but opt for something super hydrating, that will support your barrier function. The Sachi Skin, Pro Resilience Serum uses hyaluronic acid and ceramides to hydrate, aloe vera to soothe, and includes essential lipids as well as milk thistle which gives it a lovely texture that feels great on the skin.
  4. To give your skin a hydrated glow without looking greasy, opt for a non-comedogenic oil-free moisturiser such as CeraVe’s Moisturising lotion
  5. Don’t forget to protect your skin from irritants and sun damage, using the SVR Sun Secure Blur Soft-Focus Mousse SPF50+ would help achieve an ethereal glow.
  6. Once your skincare routine is complete you will then begin your make-up look starting with a super-hydrating base and letting it really soak into the skin before applying a tinted moisturiser and setting powder. At Renude we think the ColourScience Sunforgettable Brush-On Sunscreen would work a treat in combining these two steps!

We’d recommend a double cleanse at the end of the day with micellar water if you’re wearing makeup, followed by your deeper cleansing product to work into the skin to remove excess oils and impurities.

Great skin goes beyond a face mask

Consistency is a crucial factor in skin care because it allows for the long-term effectiveness of a skincare routine. It can often take between 2-4 months to see a change. Trends like these might look brilliant but they aren't realistically achieved overnight!

Here are several reasons why consistency is powerful in skincare:

  • Skin Cell Turnover: The skin goes through a natural process of shedding dead cells and generating new ones. We see the best results from our skincare after 2-3 skin cycles, so consistently following a skincare routine ensures that you’re giving the products enough time to work.
  • Product Effectiveness: Many skincare products take time to show results. Different ingredients work in different ways within the skin, so depending on the goal you are targeting, you may require multiple types of ingredients to work together for the best results.
  • Prevention and Maintenance: Skincare is not only about treating existing issues but also about preventing future ones. Consistent use of products with ingredients like antioxidants and sunscreen can help protect the skin from environmental damage and premature ageing.
  • Getting used to Ingredients: Some active ingredients, such as retinoids or acids, may cause some irritation initially. Phasing these types of products in gradually is crucial to allow the skin to acclimatise.
  • Maintaining Skin Barrier Function: The skin has a natural barrier that protects it from external aggressors. Regular skin care helps maintain and strengthen this barrier, keeping the skin healthy and resilient.

Power of consistency and patience

Being patient with your skincare routine is essential, as noticeable results often take time. Here are some tips to help you cultivate patience and stay committed to your skincare journey:

  • Set Realistic Expectations: Understand that skincare is a long-term commitment, and results may not be immediate. Realistic expectations can help you avoid disappointment and frustration.
  • Start Slow: If you're introducing new products or active ingredients into your routine, start slowly to allow your skin to adjust. Gradual incorporation can reduce the risk of irritation and give your skin time to adapt.
  • Take Progress Pictures: Document your skin's progress by taking regular photos. Sometimes, changes are subtle and may be challenging to notice day-to-day. Pictures can provide a visual record of improvements over time.
  • Focus on the Process, Not Just the Outcome: Instead of solely fixating on the end result, appreciate the self-care aspect of your skincare routine. Enjoy the process and the time you dedicate to caring for your skin.
  • Hydrate and Moisturise: Hydration is crucial for skin health. Regularly moisturising helps keep the skin barrier intact and can improve the overall look and feel of your skin.
  • Celebrate Small Wins: Acknowledge and celebrate small improvements in your skin. Whether it's a reduction in breakouts or increased hydration, recognizing these positive changes can boost your motivation.
